Environmental Change And Its Consequences

One of the most controversial issues in our time is global warming, environmental change and its consequences, which affect the entire planet, although Mr Trump believes not the United States. Global warming is the phenomenon of the increase in the global average temperature of Earth s atmosphere and oceans, possibly reaching the level of heating of the Middle Ages in the middle of the twentieth century, to top it thereafter. The effects of global warming will affect everyone, we still have time to fight it, but not too much.   Consequences of Environmental Change   Despite the fact that global warming is a subject of debate in the scientific field, as well as in the political community, the effects and characteristics of climate change are already being felt throughout the world. Still some, and few, do not agree on the causes, however, the effects of global warming threaten to be generalized, but also catastrophic. We will all suffer its consequences to a greater or lesser extent!

  1. Sea level rise.
When the surface temperature warms, melting of ice from glaciers, sea ice, as well as the polar ice shelf occurs. When this happens, it increases the amount of water that empties into the worlds oceans and leads to sea levels rising dramatically, endangering many cities that are below sea level. Scientists have speculated that melting ice from Antarctica, Greenland, and the Arctic at this rate could raise sea levels by more than 20 meters by 2100.   The thickness of the ice has been cut in half since 1950.
  1. Waves of heat.
Severe heatwaves have become increasingly common, and the reason is none other than greenhouse gases are trapped inside in the atmosphere. Studies indicate that these heat waves will continue to increase in the coming years and 100 times worse in the future. This will lead to an increase in heat related illnesses and also lead to countless fires.
  1. Killer storms.
When the temperature of the oceans becomes warmer, storms are more intense . Global warming will cause storms to become extremely severe, as well as their number. Hot ocean water will fuel the intensity of storms and result in an increased number of extremely devastating hurricanes. Effects like these are already being felt today - we have already seen that in the past 30 years, the severity and number of cyclones, hurricanes and storms have increased and nearly doubled. All of this leads to flooding, loss of life, as well as property damage. Rainfall patterns are changing as a consequence of climate change.
  1. Drought.
Droughts are at the opposite pole of this spectrum and we can see that they are already wreaking havoc on various parts of our planet. The planet is warming up and fresh water is decreasing, leading to poor conditions in agriculture. There is a great water shortage that is causing disruptions in world food production and hunger is becoming more widespread.   There are historical lakes that are disappearing all over the world, such as the  Poyang (the largest in China), the Poopó (Bolivia) or the Aral Sea .
  1. Species in extinction.
The desertification , rising ocean temperatures and deforestation is contributing to disastrous and irreversible changes that are occurring in the habitat and threatens to endanger several species that could soon become extinct. The polar bear happens to be the first example and we see that their numbers are continually falling as they struggle to acclimatize to the loss of ice in the Arctic regions. A crucial characteristic for human success is biodiversity, and the loss of flora and fauna due to the mass extinction that threaten our planet, seriously endangers the continuity of the human race.
  1. Diseases.
When there is a change in habitat, it automatically translates into an increase in disease worldwide like recent pandemic disease Coronavirus. Warmer temperatures, floods and droughts combine to create the right conditions for rats, mosquitoes, and other disease-carrying pests to thrive. Diseases such as cholera, West Nile virus, Lyme disease, dengue fever, etc. are increasing and are no longer limited to tropical climates. Asthma is continuously growing.
  1. Disappearance of glaciers.
Throughout the world we are seeing that glaciers are shrinking at an alarming rate. More and more we are losing.
  1. Wars.
Conflicts throughout the world are caused by the control of natural resources that are decreasing day by day. Not many of us are aware that the genocide that occurred in the Darfur region of Sudan was the consequence of the ecological crisis that had its roots in the reduction of natural resources that were launched due to climate changes. The war in Somalia started under very similar circumstances. Today, experts fear that this increase in food and water wars will translate into wars between some countries.
  1. Economic instability.
A countrys economy is directly related to the consequences of climate change. Natural disasters like floods or hurricanes are costly. The world crisis is giving rise to an increase in the costs of energy and food, so the economic tensions to control raw materials make them increasingly expensive.
  1. Destruction of ecosystems.
The increase in greenhouse gases is not only causing drastic changes in the atmosphere, but it is wreaking havoc across the planet, affecting water supply, clean air and agriculture, as well as energy resources. Plants and animals die or move to other (non-native) habitats, when the ecosystems they depend on for survival (such as coral reefs) are threatened by warming sea temperatures and the water is more acidic . As climate change affects the way of life, even humans will have to migrate - resulting in increased competition and war over scarce resources.   The coral reefs are being one of the great harmed, the increase in water temperature is causing its ecosystem to be destroyed. If there is no remedy, they could disappear by 2050, although today many areas that are considered irrecoverable have already been lost.
