BA (Hon) Foreign Language Entrance Exams Tips

In India, study of foreign language has been highly opted by students after class 12th. But, there is always a query hovering in the mind of the students that is how to prepare for entrance exams of BA (hons) in foreign language. There are couple of thing to understand before we come to the main topic. It is also necessary to mention that most of the private school in India do not teach foreign language. Besides, that the registration date of many universities for BA (hons) starts in December months itself that means while registering the student would be in class 12th. But, they  can certainly apply for the entrance. Now coming back to the main point like how to prepare for entrance exams of BA (hons) in foreign language. Firstly we have understand that most of the admission in foreign language field are through entrance exams. Registrations can be done online. When, I applied for BA (hons) for JNU there was registration fee around 250 for one subject, if one wants to get more options like French and German then there was additional fee for the second choice. But, the paper for the entrance exam was same. The benefit of choosing say German and French both in registration is that, if one clears the entrance exam one can get admission in either. The registration process is simple, go to the official website of the respective university and get registered. Now, how to prepare for its entrance exam. 1) Current Affairs  :-  Current affairs cover quite a good part of the exam, around 10 to 15 marks. The question can be related to sports, music, culture, politics, etc. For this read newspaper daily and maintain a notebook to keep notes of current affairs. 2) General aptitude :- Reasoning is a very important part of this exam and it covers around 15 to 20 marks. Figure related questions, age related questions, vein diagrams at covered in this part. 3) Short Note :- This can decide whether you are in the college or not. Writing skills part covers maximum marks in the paper and are checked very minutely. The facts and structure of the writing is taken into consideration. 4) Picture Essay :- The last question is to write an essay on the picture and it also carries 15 marks at least. So, writing section is considered as game changer. Write compact and point to point answer. 5) Artificial Language:- Artificial Language is also asked in the exam. It is very interesting section of exam. Artificial language means they can say, if e mean b, a mean o and t mean n. So what does eat means. So the answer would be bon. Difficulty level of artificial language is more. It is added in exam to check the pick up power of student or their speed to learn an alien language. 6) Books : Books related to foreign language are available online. Go through previous years solved paper questions. Scope In Foreign Language :- Students graduate in foreign language can become a translator. They can get job in tourism, embassies, diplomatic services, entertainment, public relation and mass communication. Some big multinational companies appoint translator like Infosys, Wipro, Tech Mahindra, Accentures, etc. Renumiration:- A teacher of foreign language can earn around 15,000 to 20,000 and plus. A translator can earn 20,000 an hours or more depending upon the work experience and expertise in the job. A graduate in foreign language have numerous opportunities aboard as well like doing job their and settling there. Like France gives jobs in its country mainly to people who are fluent in French. There are also many embassy related recruitments, so it very imperative to keep watch on the opportunities. This stream gives, not only was to know new language but also to travel new places, know different people, their culture, their believes and their way of living. In this cases the answer is very simple, the countries with which India have good economic ties give best opportunity. So, its better to opt the foreign language with which India has good relations with. Give 1 hours daily in your 12th standard it would be enough and after the board exams finish give it full time. Dont forget to cover study of culture, politics and economy  of the subjective foreign language you are applying for. In JNU, paper have cluster system, say one cluster contains, German French and Chinese and other cluster has Arabic, Korean, Japanese. Both the clusters will have different course, quite different although. But it can get clear better by going through previous year question papers. The exam that I appeared of JNU was of 3 hours, so make sure you know the working taking time in mind. All other details related to exam are provided after registration in the admit card.
