BBA AFTER ARTS IN CLASS 12?
Bachelor of Business Administration or BBA as it is more popularly known as is one amongst the most sought after Bachelor Degree Programs after 12th or equivalent education levels in today’s world. The BBA Program usually includes general business courses i.e. it covers all topics of management of any general business such as Human Resource Management, Marketing, Organizational Behavior, Business Law and Ethics, Economics among many others. It is a 3 year long course and is especially beneficial to those students who want to pursue a career in the field of management. As can be inferred, the curriculum of a BBA degree is pretty much on the same lines if not more exhaustive, extensive and vast as the curriculum of a commerce student, which incidentally has led many students to conveniently assume that BBA is only suitable for commerce students. The truth however differs. A BBA degree is not only suitable for commerce students but it certainly is more than that for them. There is no denying to the fact that commerce students relatively stand at a more advantageous position as they have their base quite developed for BBA. However this should not be taken to mean that only commerce students are eligible for BBA, rather, one of the biggest advantages of the BBA degree is that irrespective of the student’s stream at the plus 2 level, they are still eligible to pursue this program. Therefore, one is an Arts or Humanities student looking to empower themselves with the basics of management education then BBA is the first step in that direction. Why chose BBA? BBA is a management course and thus more versatile in nature. It covers finance, economics, operations, marketing, basic accounting and much more. This makes it quite suitable course for a student who is unsure of the field he/she is interested in as it covers so many areas that one is bound to find something they like. It is especially beneficial to students who plan on doing an MBA. Once one has successfully completed both, they can look forward to pursuing a lucrative career in any organization including IT, FMCG, Banking, and Advertising among many others. Better job opportunities are another reason for doing BBA. BBA for Humanities Students Many Arts/Humanities students after their 12th results aspire to get into some of the most prestigious institutions in India, to pursue a B.A.(Hons) Degree in the subject of their choice like History, Economics, and Political Science etc. Such admission, however, is Merit Based i.e. on the basis of the percentage obtained in class 12 and with the surge in students scoring above 90 or 95 in recent years it has become quite difficult to secure a seat in the college of choice with the course of choice. There is a notion that B.B.A. is meant for Commerce stream students. That is not true at all and even 12th Arts students, who have cleared board examinations, may pursue this course. Some Arts students however choose to take the road less traveled by opting to a BBA degree. Many colleges also have the criteria that the student should have a minimum of 50% marks in the qualifying examination and that the age of the student should be between 17 to 25 years. Admission These colleges usually conduct an Entrance Examinations for enrollment to its courses. To name a few, there is JAT for Delhi University Colleges, SET for Symbiosis International University and IPMAT for IIM Indore. These entrance examinations usually take place in the months of May, June or July thus, giving ample time to the students for preparation after they are done with their board examinations. The good news is that these entrance tests are mostly aptitude based, aimed to assess the student’s Numerical Ability, Logical Reasoning, General Knowledge and Verbal Ability. Thus, these can be attempted by a student of any stream and require no extensive coaching or preparation. These entrance tests once cleared are often followed by Group Discussions, Personal Interviews in several colleges and it is only after clearing all these rounds, a student is enrolled in the respective college. However, Arts Students should note that some colleges like Delhi University and Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies need the student to have mathematics as one of their subjects in class 12. Hence, often all that one needs is a strong intent to learn and work and then BBA can offer the student very bright prospects, irrespective of the stream the student passed out from in class 12.
