Start Early to Get Hired Early

The third and final year of collage brings with it the sadness of leaving the second home as well as the anticipation of getting hired. Campus recruitment become almost a bi-weekly of monthly affairs during the final year. Every time a new company and new sets of questions and interviews bringing with it joys and disappointments. At times it becomes really tough for a student to juggle between the preparations of campus interviews and the regular college classes and examinations. Here are some tips to ace the juggling and crack the toughest of interviews with ease, focusing mainly on the Aptitude, Group Discussion and Technical& PersonalInterview: Make an action plan and follow it religiously : Back to Back interviews leave no time in between to prepare one by one for each. However all interviews have some rounds in common. Focus on those. Almost all campus drives have a round of ‘Aptitude’,‘ Group Discussion( GD) and ‘Technical interview’. Start with the Aptitude section well ahead ,at least 4-6 months ahead. Separate out a time out of your daily routine and practice everyday. Get Updated : Following the Aptitude round come the Group Discussion or GD round. A lot can happen over this round. To excel in this section , the most important thing is to be aware of the topic of discussion. If you don’t even know the topic you loose there immediately. Most of these topics are current affairs. So it is very important to stay updated about all the new developments related to your field or otherwise. Read the newspaper everyday as the topic can be specific or any general topic. Next comes projection of your views. It is very important to channelize your thoughts and present it. Random shouting will not help. So you need to practice a lot on that. The quickness of thought and speech will come only after a lot of practice.   Get your subjects Right : Following the GD comes the Technical Interview , which is based mainly on you stream. Have a good knowledge of the basics of your subject. Also do a basic research for the company you are interviewing for. Focus on their products. Try to be honest. Don’t pretend to know something you actually don’t. During your Final year try to do at least 2 projects on your subject, that you can talk about during the interview. Hands-on experience gets preference. Master the art of listening. Try to answer or talk about only when you are asked to.Be specific. Don’t brag about anything. Get hired for PI : Personal Interview is the final icing on the cake. It will be your last chance to make an impression. Make the most of it. Work on the following: Make a suitable resume. Don’t carry the same resume for all positions and all companies. Dress formally and get Maintain your etiquette and have a smiling face. Look straight into the eyes of all the panel members. You need to practice these several times. Stand in front of the mirror and get your body language sorted. You are bound to get nervous on the day. So practice before hand. Get your fluency. Try talking to people in the needed language so that you can develop fluency and express yourself correctly and completely. Practicing all the above suggestions during your final year of college will not only make you interview ready but will boost your confidence and help you to outshine all your competitors.
