Tips For Writing a Killer Resume.

A resume or CV is, by definition, “a brief account of the person’s education, qualifications and previous occupations that is typically sent in with a job application.” A resume is a document that has to be very carefully crafted, so that plays into the candidate’s strengths and portrays him as the perfect candidate for the job. For every job available, there are hundreds of resumes sent in and the candidate has the difficult task of making his, stand out. Making his resume standout in a sea of others is more likely to land him the job; and in this article, we will discuss the best possible ways in which the candidate does that. One of the first things to focus on is the objective of the resume. The objective should be a short, carefully researched, targeted statement for the job, and which clearly outlines the candidate’s career goal and positions him as the perfect candidate. It should be a quick summary of the candidate’s career so far and where he wishes to with job he has applied for. There are several reasons as to why it is important to include a resume objective in the candidate’s resume. Resume objectives help to inform the hiring manager exactly what the candidate is looking for. This is especially important if the candidate is changing fields as it will clearly explain the change and also that the candidate can translate and align his skills from his previous job to the one he is applying for. If the candidate is applying for a specific position, the “resume objective” will clearly reinforce that idea with the hiring manager about what exactly the candidate is looking for. The main aim of a resume objective is to make the resume stand out from the pile and catch the hiring manager’s eye. TIPS TO FOLLOW WHEN WRITING A RESUME OBJECTIVE   The resume objective should be specific and tailored to the company and the position the candidate is applying for. The focus should be on how the candidate can benefit the company and not on how the company can benefit the candidate. Attention should be paid to the uniqueness the candidate has to offer. Short and sweet, the candidate should avoid using the same old adjectives on his resume objective. Words which enhance the energy level of the resume objective should be used as well as those that make it more dynamic and interesting. If the MBA graduate is used to work in another stream or has little experience, then he should work in other success stories which relate to the job and how he can work those skills and abilities to this different and new job. MISTAKES TO AVOID WHEN WRITING A RESUME OBJECTIVE   The resume objective should not be a “one size fits all.” The same objective should not be used for every job application. The candidate’s goal is to be the ideal candidate and this cannot be achieved if his resume is not tailored specifically for the position applied for. If the candidate is applying for 5 jobs, then he should have 5 different resume objectives. A fatal mistake that many candidates make is that they only talk about themselves in the resume objective. The candidate should avoid listing all the things he wants to get out of the job position, as it will not make a great impression on the hiring manager. It is very important to keep the resume objective short and simple. It should provide all the important information without being too long; just enough to make the candidate get called for an interview, where he can then elaborate. Being too vague is another common mistake. The resume objective should not be ambiguous in the hope that the candidate will somehow fit in, with what the position demands. This will definitely result in the candidate not getting called for an interview. Lastly, the candidate should not write a resume objective that adds no value. A resume objective should not just fill space without ever telling the hiring manager the abilities, skills, and values that the candidate can bring to the table. A resume objective should project the candidate as the ideal candidate who fulfills the needs of the company; someone the hiring manager must bring to the interview table. By following these tips when writing a resume objective, candidates easily can find their resume at the top the pile rather than it being discarded after a simple glance.
