SMS Varanasi Celebrates Hindi Diwas with Creativity, Knowledge and Intellectual Excellence

The Department of Mass Communication, School of Management Sciences (SMS), Varanasi, successfully concluded its two-day Creative Writing and Debate Competition organized on the occasion of Hindi Diwas. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students and reaffirmed the institution's commitment to promoting the Hindi language as a medium of creativity, communication, and cultural identity.

The valedictory session was graced by Mr. Ashok Pandey, Programme Head, All India Radio (Akashvani), Varanasi, as the Chief Guest. Addressing the gathering, he highlighted the contemporary relevance of Hindi in an increasingly fast-paced and globalized world. He remarked that Hindi is not merely a language but a symbol of India's cultural identity. Emphasizing its importance, he said that reading, writing, and speaking Hindi have become essential in preserving the nation's cultural heritage.

Interacting with the students, Mr. Pandey encouraged them to think in their own language, stating that the language in which one thinks ultimately becomes the most authentic medium of expression. He further observed that Hindi is not just a means of communication but the very heart of Indian culture, and embracing it is a collective cultural responsibility.

Welcoming the Chief Guest, Dr. Ishan Tripathi, Course Coordinator of B.A. (Hons.) Mass Communication, motivated students to participate fearlessly in academic and literary competitions. He emphasized that regular reading is the foundation of creativity, critical thinking, and vocabulary enrichment, while proficiency in standard Hindi writing strengthens effective communication. He urged students to adopt Hindi not merely as a language but as a value system that reflects India's rich traditions, emotions, and cultural ethos. He added that the vitality of Hindi lies in its continuous use—the more it is written and spoken, the more vibrant and relevant it becomes.

A major highlight of the event was the Debate Competition on the theme "Hindi: Opportunities and Challenges in the Global Scenario." Participants presented well-researched arguments, insightful perspectives, and thought-provoking ideas, making the competition intellectually stimulating and highly engaging.

The winners of the debate competition were:

First Prize: Ms. Surabhi Tripathi (Semester V)
Second Prize: Ms. Sneha Singh (Semester V)
Third Prize: Ms. Anshika Barnwal (Semester III)

In addition, six other participants were presented with consolation prizes in recognition of their commendable performances.

Adding to the excitement of the occasion, Dr. Ishan Tripathi made a special announcement that all nine prize winners would be given a unique opportunity to present programmes at Akashvani, Varanasi, providing them with valuable exposure to professional broadcasting.

The formal vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Gaurav Shah. The programme was efficiently compered by Ms. Vardhini Soni and Mr. Utsav Yadav, students of B.A. (Hons.) Mass Communication, Semester III.

Among those present were Dr. Anshuman Rana, Dr. Veer Pratap, faculty members, and a large number of enthusiastic students.

The celebration concluded on an inspiring note, reinforcing the significance of Hindi not only as a language of communication but also as a powerful medium of creativity, cultural consciousness, and intellectual expression.
