One-Week Online Faculty Development Programme on Quality Assurance in Higher Education Institution: Revised NAAC Framework

School of Management Sciences, Varanasi, Internal Quality Assurance Cell organized a one week (June 09, 2020 – June 15, 2020) Online Faculty Development Programme on "Quality Assurance in Higher Education Institutions: Revised NAAC Framework. Prof. P.N. Jha Director SMS Varanasi welcomed the participant and the resource persons across the country for this one week FDP. The chief guest for this FDP and the keynote address was given by Dr. Pratibha Singh NAAC Deputy Advisor, New Delhi.

 

The key resource person for this one-week FDP was Dr. Pallavi Pathak Associate Professor (IQAC Coordinator and FDP Convener) SMS Varanasi. Prof. Bhagwan Jagwani, Director Allen house Group of College Kanpur. Prof. Mahendra Shirsat Director, (RUSA Centre for Advanced Sensor Technology) Director, (DDU, KAUSHAL Kendra) Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, Aurangabad. Prof. Pratosh Bansal Institute of Engineering & Technology, Devi Ahilya University (DAVV), Indore. Mr. Ram Gopal Gupta Associate Professor, SMS Varanasi. Dr. Amitabh Pandey Associate Professor, SMS Varanasi.

 

Day II of the Online Faculty Development Programme on "Quality Assurance in Higher Education Institutions: Revised NAAC Framework begins with the session of Dr. Pallavi Pathak briefing on RAF: Process and Preparedness II. She discussed the processes and required procedure that needs to be completed before any institution applies for NAAC accreditation. She stated the NAAC mission statement and its purpose of this organization; that assesses the quality of the higher education institution volunteering for the process, through an internationally accepted methodology. She also discussed in detail the seven criteria developed by the NAAC to assess the education institution and also the role of the IQAC department in an education institution for pushing long term quality standards.

 

Day II witnessed the session of Dr. Bhagwan Jagwani, who beautifully deliberated the details of Criterion 1; Curricular Aspect, one of the criterions among seven criteria which NAAC has formulated to assess the quality of higher education institution. He stated that curriculum is the essential ingredient of any education system regardless of the education level. All other aspects whether teaching, learning and evaluation or research and development, infrastructure and learning resources, student activities and support system revolve around it. Therefore, curricular aspects and the best practices connected to curriculum design and development play a very significant dimension of the quality of higher education since the curriculum has a decisive role in steering the other elements of quality.

Day III session was taken by Prof. Mahendra Shirsat on Criterion 2; Teaching-Learning and Evaluation, he discussed the seven key criteria under Criterion 02: Student enrolment and profile, catering to student diversity, teaching-learning process, teacher profile and quality, evaluation process and reform, student performance and intelligent quotient, student satisfaction survey. Apart from this, he also taught the meaning of Course Outcome (CO), Program Outcome (PO), and Program Specific Outcome (PSO).

 

Day IV session was on the topic Research Innovation and Extension: Criterion 3. The topic discussed in this session was on qualitative and quantitative metrics, validation of data by an external agency, quality indicator framework, research mobilization for research, extension, and collaboration. Criterion 4; Infrastructure and Learning Resource was taken by Mr. Ram Gopal Gupta. The key indicator which was discussed in this session was Physical facilities, library as a learning resource, IT Infrastructure, Maintenance of Campus Infrastructure. Mr. Gupta also stated in detail Standard operating procedure (SOP) and Annual Quality Assurance Report (AQAR) of Criterion IV: Infrastructure and Learning Resources.

 

Day V begins with the session on Criterion 5; Student Support and Progression. This session was chaired by Dr. Amitabh Pandey. He discussed four key indicators that fall under criterion 5; students support, student progression, student participant activities, and alumni engagement. Day VI session was taken by Dr. Bhagwan Jagwani. He discussed criterion 6; governance leadership and management. On the final day; day VII of FDP, Prof. Pratosh Bansal session begins with Criterion 7; Institutional value and best practices, which is the last criterion of seven criteria of quality assessment of education institution formed by NAAC.

 

Valedictory Session was chaired by Prof. Sandeep Singh Professor School of Management Sciences, where he discussed the process through which School of Management Sciences Varanasi went for the NAAC accreditation cycle, and after four long years of hard work, School of Management Sciences Varanasi got NAAC “A” accreditation in its first cycle. Vote of thanks was given by Dr. Pallavi Pathak Associate Professor SMS Varanasi.
