Three-day PGDM & MBA Orientation Programme at SMS Varanasi
The Three-day Orientation Programme at School of Management Sciences (SMS) Varanasi for the 20th batch of Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) and 2nd batch of Master in Business Administration (MBA) started at the Khushipur campus with the Chief Guest, Shri Rajesh Srivastava, Head-HR, British Paints Ltd. exhorting the students to dream big in life and working hard to achieve those dreams. He further told that in the past the students from SMS have been performing excellently in the corporate, which has led to an increase in expectations of the industry. There is no shortcut to hard work. Soft skills, innovation and self analyzing consistently are a key to success. Upgrading and adding values and skills together with discipline in conduct and character are essential elements for success.
Shri Vijay Deshpande, VP-HR, J.K. Tyres Ltd., in his Presidential address, told students that industry requires great global talent and therefore we should enable ourselves to be great. SMS as an institute that has over the years created and nurtured a pool of global talent and providing the industry its future human resource. Management requires managing ourselves first and hence self analysis is inevitable. Later in one of the Orientation Sessions, he interacted with the new incumbents on the topic The Leader in You.
Earlier, welcoming the dignitaries, the Director, SMS Varanasi, Prof. P. N. Jha said that the corporate and society at large have high hopes from management professionals. Students of SMS in the past have earned high laurels from industry for performing their professional as well as social responsibilities. SMS provides the basic knowledge and leadership framework so that the budding managers may excel with perfection. Welcoming the new batch of PGDM and MBA students, he said that such an orientation programme is academic and environmental socialization for them.
The Dean (Management Sciences), Dr. Sanjay Saxena gave a briefing about the PGDM and MBA programme while Shri K. K. Bajpai (Reader) presented the SMS Preamble.
The programme also witnessed deliberations by Dean (R & D), Shri Alok Kumar on Pedagogy and Evaluation Systems in Post Graduate Management Programme and also by Dean (Development & Student Affairs), Shri Sandeep Singh who talked about Historical and Philosophical Foundations of Business). In other sessions Mr. Rishi Raman Singh (Coordinator, PGDM) talked on business and economy and Mr. Sunit Mishra (Assistant Professor) spoke on Employability Enhancement Programme at SMS. Dr. Sanjay Saxena (Dean, Management Sciences) enlightened the students on Campus to Corporate.
The Programme was coordinated by Mrs. Pallavi Pathak (Assistant Professor) while the vote of thanks was proposed by Shri Sandeep Singh. Present on the occasion were the Executive Secretary, SMS Society, Dr. M. P. Singh, Registrar Shri Sanjay Gupta and senior and new faculty members of SMS Varanasi. At the end the Director Prof. P. N. Jha felicitated the Guests with a memento. The latest issue of International Research Journal published by SMS, Management Insight was also released by the guests.
