Webinar on Reverse Migration of Labours: Issues, Challenges and Solutions

School of Management Sciences Varanasi organized a webinar on Reverse Migration of Labours: Issues, Challenges, and Solutions on May 27, 2020, from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM. This program was organized for PGDM students, where students themselves presented and shared their views on the mass exodus of workers towards their hometown and upcoming challenges which industry would be facing post lockdown.

Discussion in this webinar revolved around the Indian economy, where the Indian economy saw the mass exodus of workers migrating from the place of their work towards their hometown so that to continue their livelihood, during this time of pandemic Covid19 crisis. This crisis has hit the business organization and job market hard, resulting in millions of people losing their job. Thus now there exists a big question towards life versus livelihood.

The COVID-19 pandemic has put the country under an extended lockdown that generates a cascading impact on economic development. Still, it presents severe challenges to the power and renewable energy industries as a result of labor migration. The migration of migrant laborers from major metro cities has resulted in a shortage of non-technical staff employed in the energy sector, and even if the government opts for a phased lifting of the lockout, the mechanism of remobilization will present challenges for companies, according to industry leaders. "Labor demobilization is still easy, but remobilization is not.

The PGDM students who presented their presentation were  Gracy Singh, Sonu Singh, Divya Rai, Vaishnavi Khanna, Akanksha Dutta, Anjali Roy, Jaspreet Kaur, Richa Singh Richa, Kajal Srivastava, Harsh Singhal, Subhangi Prashar, Pravesh, Mayank, Garima Goel, Diksha Kashyap, Tony Joseph, Viktor, Rajan Kumar.
