BBA, BCA Orientation Programme at SMS Varanasi- 2012

The 16th batch of ‘Bachelor of Business Administration’ (BBA) and 15th batch of Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA) programmes began at the campus of School of Management Sciences. Inaugurating the function, the Chief Guest, Prof. P. Nag, Vice-Chancellor, Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapeeth said that in the post globalised economy students should work towards gaining better insights about technology management, national resource management and legal issues especially in the post UN laws, International Conventions and National laws. Citing interesting examples he emphasised that global business is a reality and hence its effective management is important.

In his address, Guest of Honour, Prof. S. K. Singh, Dean-FMS BHU blessed the students and said that it is a right time for the young aspirants of management education to study with great zeal and aspiration. He further said that development of capabilities, skills and foresightedness is an essential ingredient to get success in corporate endeavours.

The Director of SMS Varanasi, Prof. P. N. Jha in his motivating welcome address exhorted the students to make the best use of their time and sharpen their skills to become successful professionals. He further said that SMS happens to be the pioneering institution in bringing this professional Under-graduate programme to the ‘Purvanchal’ region which still is devoid of industrialization strides. He also said that conventional courses are not highly sensitive to environmental changes. Here BBA and BCA fill-in the gap.

The Principal Coordinator of the Under-graduate programmes at SMS, Associate Professor, Mr. Alok Kumar outlined the various value-added services designed especially for career advancement of the BBA and BCA students. The Coordinators of the BBA and BCA Programmes, Mr. Atish Khadse and Mr. Rajiv Katare respectively gave the course outline.

In other sessions the senior faculty members presented their viewpoints on different aspects of management. Dr. Meenakshi Singh, Senior lecturer, SMS informed the gathering about International collaborations while Spiritual Centre activities were highlighted by Mr. Sandeep Singh, Associate Professor, SMS, Varanasi. The Knowledge Management Centre’s role was presented by Dr. Ravi Shekhar Vishal, Senior Lecturer, SMS while Ms. Indrani Sen Gupta, Lecturer, SMS highlighted the extra-curricular activities at SMS. Dr. Shardul Chaubey, Reader, SMS emphasised on Global Business Scenarios and Associate Professor, Mohd. Wamique Hisam stressed on the need of discipline and code of conduct. Mr. Amitabh Pandey, Reader, SMS talked about the Alumni Network on the occasion and Associate Professor, Dr. Sanjay Saxena discussed on ‘Leadership roles’. The Computer Centre activities were highlighted by Mr. Ram Gopal Gupta, Reader, SMS while Library Resources by Librarian, Mrs. Pratima Bhargava. Mr. Abhishek Srivastava, Senior Lecturer, presented the profile of core and visiting faculty to the audience.

Earlier, the programme began with the lamp lighting and garlanding the statue of Goddess Saraswati by the Chief Guest, Prof. P. Nag, Guest of Honour, Prof. S. K. Singh, Dr. M. P. Singh, Executive Secretary, SMS, Prof. P. N. Jha, Director, SMS and Mr. Sanjay Gupta, Registrar, SMS. Executive Secretary, SMS, presented the shawl and memento to the guests. Prof. J. P. Mishra, Dean Academics, SMS proposed the vote of thanks. The inaugural session was coordinated by Ms. Indrani Sengupta, Lecturer, SMS. On the occasion all the faculty members were also present.
