SMS Mental Ability Recognition Test (SMART)
Leading Business School of the country, School of Management Sciences (SMS), Varanasi organized the final round of the state level competition “SMART” on Saturday, November 19, 2011. Keeping up with the tradition of its commitment towards its social responsibility activities, SMS initiated this competitive event. More than 8,000 students from 50 different colleges in the state participated in the competition and showcased their analytical, reasoning and mental ability. From among the 8000 students, 300 students got selected for the final round of the competition. The objective of the competition was to identify and honour the talents in the state and to encourage them towards making a successful career. The Chief Guest for the prize distribution ceremony was Brigadier Akhil Dixit, Commandant, 39, GTC, Cantt, Varanasi. In his address to the final round participants and the winners, Brigadier Akhil Dixit, (39 GTC, Varanasi) congratulated SMS on this very initiative towards talent hunt across the state. He urged the students to have a balanced life style and exhorted them to fulfill their own responsibilities first. He laid stress on the importance of communication skills, technical skills, general awareness, ethics & moral values and civic sense for succeeding in life. He said life comprises of four phases – Blossoming phase, golden phase, mellowing – down phase and vintage phase in which the first phase decides about the remaining three phases. Students need to concentrate and focus on the first phase to have a good life altogether.
In the competition of the final round held at the SMS campus, in the graduate section the first and the second slots were taken by Vasantha College for Women while the third prize was won by Shri Agrasen P. G. College. In the Intermediate section the first and the second prizes were captured by students of Sant Atulanand while the third prize was taken by St. John’s DLW, Varanasi. The first prize in both the sections of SMART comprised of a cash reward of Rs. 25,000/- each, the second prize Rs. 15,000/- each and the third prize Rs. 10,000/- each. Besides two consolation prizes each in both the sections were also distributed. In addition to the cash reward, the winners also received a citation and a trophy.
Earlier welcoming the guests, Prof. P. N. Jha said that since its inception in 1995 School of Management Sciences has shown unparalleled commitment towards imparting value based education with a well built academic delivery system. This has won SMS many accolades at the National as well as International levels. Later Shree Sanjay Gupta, Registrar, SMS declared the “SMART” results. There was an atmosphere of rejoice among the students. The principals and teacher of different schools and colleges appreciated the efforts of School of Management Sciences for initiating such competitive event. They opined that this will not only provide a platform to the students in the state for showcasing their talents but will help to search the best talents in the state. Sharing the views, the students and their parents welcomed this step from SMS wholeheartedly and said that such events lead to building confidence and high morale among students and inspire them to give in their best. At the end, Dr. M. P. Singh, Executive Secretary, SMS & Prof. P. N. Jha, Director, SMS felicitated the Hon’ble guest with a memento. The vote of Thanks was proposed by Mohd Wamique Hisam, Reader, SMS, Varanasi. The session was coordinated by Mrs. Anjana Harish, Lecturer, SMS. On this occasion Mr. Sanjay Gupta, Registrar, SMS, Varanasi and the entire faculty members were also present.
