“Adharshila”- The Foundation Day Event at SMS Varanasi

Renowned business school in the region School of Management Sciences (SMS), Varanasi completed its 16 years of existence on November 10, 2011. The Institution celebrated its 17th Foundation Day Adharshila amidst joyous fervor and competitive spirit with 12 teams participating in the day long competitive events covering four events in academic and cultural arenas. A traditional puja was performed at the Campus in the early morning hours before the arrival of the Chief Guest. The Chief Guest in the inaugural session was Honorable Prof. Kripa Shankar, Vice Chancellor, Gautama Buddha Technical University, Lucknow. Inaugurating the day-long event Adharshila 2011 at SMS Campus, Prof. Kripa Shankar said that knowledge is the purpose of education to ameliorate the society. He exhorted the students to keep the flag of SMS flying high in the sky. Prof. Kripa Shankar further said that knowledge has three main objectives, to create knowledge, to disseminate knowledge and to utilize knowledge in a way that leads to greater good of the society. He further emphasized that the students should inculcate traditional values and work for the welfare of the society also. The presidential address was made by Prof. K. P. Singh, Former Vice Chancellor, V.B.S. Purvanchal University (Director, IT, B.H.U.). Prof. Singh said that since its inception in 1995 SMS has showed continuous growth for achieving academic excellence. The achievement of the institutions over the years has been exemplary. Addressing the students of management & technology Prof. Singh further said that SMS is a seat of learning and alma matter for them and they should work to enhance the respect and importance of the institution. Students wherever they go and whatever may be the situation always represent the institution they come from. Prof. Singh citing the example of SMS said that academic commitment is the call of the hour and only with quality infrastructure, faculty members, transparent governance the quality education can be imparted. He congratulated SMS for possessing all these qualities which has made it grow by leaps and bounds in just 16 years time. Welcoming the Guests to the function, the Director of SMS, Varanasi, Prof. P. N. Jha said that it is a momentous occasion for the entire SMS family to have covered a gracious sojourn of six years in which the institution developed itself as one of the leading centres of Management and Computer education in the country only due to the well wishes of all its stakeholders from time to time owing to which two more of its branches shot up in the state capital Lucknow to impart Engineering education as well. He welcomed the Chief Guest to the Campus and hoped that under his stewardship, not only the Gautam Buddha Technical University but also SMS family would perform excellently in providing value based education. Later, the Executive Secretary of SMS Group of Institutions, Dr. M. P. Singh and Prof. P. N. Jha, Director, SMS felicitated the Chief Guest with a shawl and memento. Mr. Sanjay Gupta, faculty members, members of the administrative staff and students were present on the occasion. The inaugural function witnessed the musical and mesmerizing cultural performances by the students of SMS which included the western dance, gujarati folk dance, ganesh mahotsava dance and the colour of India. The students cheered the performers with full enthusiasm, zeal and verve. The inaugural session was coordinated by Dr. Meenakshi Singh while the vote of thanks was presented by Prof. J. P. Mishra, Dean, Academics. The four events included the two academic events Business Quiz & Mock Parliament, and two cultural events Solo Song and Solo Dance. The participating teams included Faculty of Commerce, BHU, Deptt. of Psychology PMIR, BHU, Sunbeam College for Women, IMS SHEPA, Vasanta College for Women, Arya Mahila PG College, Jeevan Deep Institute of Management & Technology, Kashi Institute of Technology, International Management Academy, apart from SMS. Employee of SMS (teaching & Non Teaching) who got felicitated from the management of SMS Society included Mr. Sandeep Singh (Associate Professor-Management), from the teaching community and Mr. Sunil Singh (Assistant Registrar), Mr. Vaikunth Nath Singh (Security Incharge) from the non teaching community while Anil Sharma, Rajesh Gaur (Grade-IV staff) for giving their uninterrupted ten years of service to the Institution.Sanjeevani Before the Veledictory function, a scintillating musical program was presented by the famous bollywood film playback singer and 1995 ZEE Sa Re Ga Ma Pa winner Sanjeevani. She with her melodious voice memerised the young and vibrant crowd of SMS. On this occasion a Khukhri Haath Dance was also presented by the 39 GTC. This is a traditional folk dance of Napalese community where a group of people perform on the beats of Maadal a traditional Dhol accompanied by Nepali Song. On the occasion Dr. Sanjay Saxena, Associate Professor played drum set with his team, and enthralled the audience. In the Valedictory session, while awarding the winners, the Chief Guest Prof V. K. Kumara (Registrar, B.H.U.) said that participating in such programs leads to the personality development and hence students should actively participate and perform. Shree L. B. Rai, Chief Personnel Officer, D.L.W. in his presidential address said that the SMS institution has worked consistently towards development of better human resource and it is worth appreciation. Shri Rai further said that the present time is full of human resource challenges and it can be countered only through holistic and overall development of the personality. He congratulated and appreciated the efforts of SMS for playing an important role in developing the human resource talent in the region.Vote of Thanks has been given by Convener of the Program Mr. Sandeep Singh, Associate Professor, SMS Varanasi.
