PGDMs 2011-13: Orientation Program initiated at SMS Varanasi
The seventeenth batch of the AICTE approved Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) programme got-off to a flying start at the Khushipur (Bachhaon) campus of School of Management Sciences (SMS) here on Thursday amidst high profile corporate presence, which includedMr. G. S. Pandey (Executive Advisor-Prism Cement), Mr. Arun Kumar (Joint President-HR, HINDALCO), Mr. Rakesh Seth (Vice President- Corporate HR, Fedders Lloyd), Mr. Rajeev Gupta (Vice President-HR, Kajaria Ceramics), Mr. KC Kandpal (Head-HR, CPS India, Dr. Reddy.s Lab) and Prof. A. K. Ghose (IT-BHU).
In his Presidential address in the Inaugural session, Mr. G. S. Pandey congratulated the new comers on getting selected at the prestigious SMS-Varanasi campus for the flagship PGDM course and exhorted them to work hard in the highly competitive environment of the post-liberalisation era. The Chief Guest, Mr. Arun Kumar in his address to the elite group said that today each of us have to fight for existence. We must have passion in things we do, must add value to ourselves and broaden our horizon in order to excel in this post-liberalisation era. He was happy to see the readiness of SMS in meeting the corporate requirements through its innovative pedagogy and curriculum which are rated very high amongst our industry. Mr. Arun Kumar stressed on the five pillars of high performing organisations Recruitment, Performing culture, Learning and Development, Career progression and Compensation & rewards systems which must be forged into every being in order to perform.
In his welcome address, theDirector of SMS-Varanasi, Prof. P. N. Jhawelcomed the fresh PGDM students along with the dignitaries gracing the occasion and said that ever since SMS launched the PGDM programme in 1995, the corporate world has always extended the sought support to it due to which there happens to be a strong alumni network across the country in almost every industrial sector. In about 15 years time, the PGDM alumni have now reached the top echelon of the corporate sector and are serving the country and its people through human value approach. This unique way of infusing management education in the young breed of the nation has encouraged more and more industrial houses to join the SMS culture by providing quality internships and placements. Last season witnessed the highest ever corporate visits at SMS-Varanasi and the best ever placements amidst global economic slowdown, commented Prof. Jha.
TheChairperson (Training & Placement-SMS Varanasi and PGDM Coordinator) Dr. Sanjay Saxena (Associate Professor)gave a feel of the entire PGDM programme structure to the freshers. He also highlighted the relevance of such a course in the post globalization world order and informed the gathering about the value-additions which SMS is going to add-on its existing programme structure which incorporates a plethora of activities. Mr. K. K. Bajpai (Reader) presented the preamble of SMS.
The Vote-of-thanks was given byProf. J. P. Mishra (Dean-Academic)while the inaugural session was coordinated by Dr. Meenakshi A Singh (Senior Lecturer). The latest issue of the SMS Newsletter was released by the Guests present on the occasion. Later the Guests were felicitated by the Executive Secretary Dr. M. P. Singh and the Director Prof. P. N. Jha. On this occasion, Mr. Sanjay Gupta (Registrar), Mr. Alok Kumar and Mr. Sandeep Singh (both Associate Professors) and other faculty members were also present.
In the 4-day long orientation programme, students would be exposed to the functioning of SMS besides anecdotes on Marketing, HR, Finance, Operations, Spirituality and Human Values. by the corporate big-wigs and senior faculty members of SMS.
