FDP on ‘Potential Enhancement in Teaching, Learning and Research
School of Management Sciences, Varanasi successfully organized a seven days Faculty Development Programme on ‘Potential Enhancement in Teaching, Learning and Research’ during 5th – 11th July, 2018 at its Khushipur Campus.
The programme commenced on 5th July, 2018 with the ceremonial tradition of lamp lighting and garlanding of goddess Saraswati. Prof. M.R. Dixit, Former Professor – IIM Ahmedabad and FDP Chairperson Prof. P.N. Jha jointly inaugurated the programme in the presence of FDP Convenor – Prof. Alok Kumar and FDP Coordinators – Dr. Anupam Shukla and Dr. Medha Srivastava. During his welcome address, Prof. Jha pointed that teachers are self-regulated and self-taught. Hence, activities like FDP and refresher courses are indispensible for their growth. He spoke about the changes visible in Education Model 4.0 and felt that these changes must be absorbed by the young and upcoming generation of teachers. He welcomed Prof. Dixit and thanked him for gracing this “cerebral confluence” with his illuminating presence. Subsequently, Dr. Anupam Shukla briefed the gathering about FDP. He stressed upon the need to stay abreast of the latest development and presented a brief layout of the programme. In his inaugural address, Chief Guest Prof Dixit mentioned the increasing performance pressure on teachers and elaborated upon the characteristics of Industry 4.0 that involves all round automation and artificial intelligence. The inaugural ceremony also marked the release of 14th volume of ‘Management Insight’ journal by the dignitaries.
The resource persons of FDP included Prof. M.R. Dixit (Former Professor, IIM Ahmedabad), Prof. Gyan Prakash Singh (Department Of Statistics, Banaras Hindu University), Dr. Alok Gardia (Department of Education, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi & Visiting Fellow, Eotos Lorand University, Budapest and University of Debrecen, Debrecen, Hungary) and Prof. A.K. Tripathi, Dean – Resources & Alumni, Department of Computer Science & Engineering, IIT (BHU) Varanasi. The participants included faculty members of SMS Varanasi and SMS Lucknow as well as faculty and research scholars from Karnataka, Orissa and other parts of Uttar Pradesh. The FDP was enriched with the remarkable level of participation marked by extraordinary energy, enthusiasm and engagement of each participant.
The chief guest of Valedictory ceremony on 11th July, 2018, Prof. A.K. Tripathi, Dean – Resources & Alumni, Department of Computer Science & Engineering, IIT (BHU) Varanasi stated that the activities of a teacher revolved around interpreting knowledge, processing the knowledge and finally, generation of the knowledge. He hoped that every participant would walk out feeling enriched and satisfied after attending the sessions of this FDP and wished them great success. Later, Programme Coordinator – Dr. Medha Srivastava summarized various sessions that took place during seven days in a succinct FDP report. She presented the proceedings of all technical sessions along with key learning and outcomes of these sessions. The ceremony concluded with certificate distribution after which Programme Convener – Prof. Alok Kumar expressed gratitude towards the FDP Chairperson, resource persons and participants. All sessions of FDP were competently coordinated by Dr. Pallavi Pathak (Assistant Professor, School of Management Sciences, Varanasi). On this occasion, Dr. M. P. Singh (Executive Secretary, School of Management Sciences, Varanasi) and Mr. Sanjay Gupta (Registrar, School of Management Sciences, Varanasi) were also present.
