Two Days National conference on “Information Technology for Innovative Business Practices” held at SMS Varanasi on 7th & 8th October, 2017. Noted academician, author of several world class books in Computing, Prof. E. Balaguruswamy, Former Vice Chancellor, Anna University inaugurated the National Conference at School of Management Sciences, Varanasi. He exhorted the youth of the country to come forward and innovate to make the country move faster towards ‘developed’ category shedding the seven decade old ‘developing’ tag. Addressing the gathering of over a hundred participants from various parts of the country, he said that Innovation is an integral part of life.
He discussed about the state of affairs of the Indian education and brought out the fact that even the pioneer Universities of India are not there in the top-notch world Institutions list. It happened because they did not innovate, he added. Citing further, he said that on almost all socio-economic parameters, India is lagging behind and this is true because India lacked in the area of Innovation. In case of absence of creativity and innovation, India is likely to remain ‘developing for the next three to four decades’, he added. He further said that we also need to create people with competence and character. India can be developed by only students and teachers, not by politicians, he said. Further, our innovation and that too IT-enabled must produce goods and services for the benefit of the common man or the society at large. He cited few examples of Tirupur, Sivakasi and Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu where traditional business have disappeared because of lack of innovation and Chinese and Malaysian products have flooded the market. He added, today Data is the most useful resource for everyone and we should have the curiosity and idea to use it in the most productive way.
The Guest of Honour of the Conference, Dr. Lalit Kumar Singh, Senior Scientist, BARC-Mumbai, highlighted the fact how Conference platforms can be used to discuss Research and Innovations which need to have societal impact. Earlier, the Director of SMS Varanasi, Prof. P.N. Jha welcomed the Guests and participants of the Conference. The Conference Convenor, Prof. K. S. Mishra presented the theme while the Vote of thanks for the inaugural session was presented by the Organizing Secretary, Shri S. S. Srivastava. Dr. Pallavi Pathak coordinated the inaugural session. On this occasion, the Conference Souvenir and the 24th issue of the Institute’s pioneer International research journal ‘Management Insight’ were released. Later the Guests were honoured by Prof P.N. Jha by presenting shawl and memento.
The two-day event is witnessing around 50 paper presentations on contemporary issues related to Conference themes. The Valedictory Guest would be Prof. S. K. Kak, Former VC, MMTU-NOIDA, on the second day interacted with the audience. During the Conference, Registrar Shri Sanjay Gupta, Executive Secretary Dr. M.P. Singh and faculty members were also present apart from some students from different Universities and colleges around India.
