Workshop on Understanding Constitutional Values, Fundamental Rights & Duties” for BBA II Students

The School of Management Sciences (SMS), Varanasi, organized a 30-hour value-added course (BBA-VAC-25-03) titled “Understanding Constitutional Values, Fundamental Rights & Duties” for BBA IInd  Semester students (Batch 2024–2027). The program was conducted from 25th to 29th April 2025, at the Seminar Hall, with daily sessions scheduled from 11:45 AM to 03:30 PM. Dr. Anjali, Assistant Professor at SMS Varanasi, served as the session coordinator for the event. 

The program commenced with a ceremonial inauguration featuring the lighting of the lamp and garlanding of the statue of Goddess Saraswati by the esteemed guests and dignitaries. Prof. (Dr.) Sandeep Singh, HoD - Management & Mass Communication presented bouquets to the guests,  Dr. Mayank Pratap, Assistant Professor, Faculty of Law, Banaras Hindu University and Dr. Prabhat Kumar Srivastav, Principal of SMS Law College, Varanasi as a gesture of welcome and respect.

The welcome address was delivered by Prof. (Dr.) Sandeep Singh, Head of the Department of Management & Mass Communication at SMS Varanasi, setting the tone for the academic sessions to follow. Prof. Sandeep Singh sensitized the students towards need to enhance their understanding of the democratic principles, legal rights, and societal duties which is critical for shaping ethical leaders aware of their role in upholding justice, equality, and national integrity for the future. He also sighted the conditions in our neighbouring countries, indicating the significance of our great constitution. 

The session of Dr. Mayank Pratap, focused on “Understanding Constitutional Values.” Dr. Pratap elaborated on the philosophy of the Indian Constitution and highlighted its core values such as justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity. This session provided students with a foundational understanding of the Constitution’s guiding principles. 

Further in the session on “Fundamental Rights and Duties,” Dr. Prabhat Kumar Srivastav, Principal - SMS Law College offered a comprehensive overview of the Fundamental Rights enshrined in the Constitution, the reasonable restrictions applicable to them, and the duties expected of citizens. He also explained the intricate relationship between rights and duties, enriching the students’ understanding of constitutional obligations. 

Following the session, Shri Sanjay Gupta, Registrar of SMS Varanasi, felicitated the invited speakers. A vote of thanks was delivered by Mr. Veeresh Tripathi, Course Coordinator of the BBA Programme, expressing gratitude to all contributors and participants. The program concluded on a patriotic note with the singing of the National Anthem, marking the end of a meaningful and insightful academic event. 

A big thank you to all the guests’ speakers in the various sessions,  Dr. Mayank Pratap, Dr. Prabhat Kumar Srivastav and the faculties from SMS Law College, Dr. Ashraya Dubey, Dr. Upasana Wali, Mr. Ankit Rai and Mr. Avinash Kumar Roy. Also Present in the program were Mr. Himanshu Upadhyay & Dr. Khushboo Kumar, Course Co-Coordinator-BBA, Dr. Vir Pratap, Coordinator-B.Com. (Hons.), and faculty members Dr. Palima Pandey & Mr. Chandra Prakash Agarwal along with the other faculty members.
