The vibrant campus of School of Management Sciences, Varanasi echoed with enthusiasm as the Orientation Programme for M.Com., B.Com. (Hons.), and B.A. (Hons.) Mass Communication was inaugurated with grandeur. The event was graced by eminent academicians, industry experts, and enthusiastic freshers embarking on a new chapter of learning.
Prof. P. N. Jha, Director, SMS Varanasi, extended a warm welcome to the guests and students. In his inspiring address, he remarked SMS is not just an institution of higher learning, but a living ecosystem of values, innovation, and transformation. As you enter this new academic journey, remember that your growth will not be measured only by your grades but by how responsibly you contribute to the society and the nation.
Chief Guest, Prof. H. K. Singh, Dean & Head, Faculty of Commerce, BHU, ignited the spirit of determination among students with his thought-provoking message said that The real mantra of success lies in PHD – Patience, Hard Work, and Dedication. As we step into the ‘Amrit Kaal’ (2022–2047), every young mind has a sacred duty to dream beyond boundaries and work relentlessly for a developed India. He stressed upon that if our planning once failed with the limitations of Five-Year Plans, today we must think in terms of 20 years ahead, envisioning an India that leads the world with wisdom, innovation, and resilience.
Guest of Honour, CA Ms. Sudeshna Basu, connected academics with social responsibility. She emphasized that true education is incomplete without compassion. Learn to embrace change, but also nurture a sense of belonging with society. Feed an animal, help the underprivileged, give back to the community – for it is only when your knowledge uplifts others, it finds its true purpose.
Guest of Honour, Mr. Rajesh Bhatia, Secretary, Indian Industry Association & President- Small Industry Association, Varanasi inspired students to adopt entrepreneurial thinking. He remarked that in today’s world, success belongs to those who dare to think differently. Innovation starts when you challenge norms and build what the world has never seen. Be fearless in learning and courageous in creating the change you wish to see.
Prof. Rajkumar Singh, HoD – Commerce, introduced students to their respective programmes and motivated them with the mantra of “Learn, Unlearn, and Relearn.” He highlighted that Knowledge without ethics is incomplete, and quality without consistency is hollow.
Dr. Shruti Singh presented the Preamble of SMS Varanasi, reiterating the institution’s vision and mission, while the session was smoothly moderated by Dr. Anju Singh, Coordinator – M.Com. Program. A heartfelt Vote of Thanks was delivered by Dr. Vir Pratap, Coordinator – B.Com. (Hons.) Program, acknowledging the contributions of all dignitaries.The session was also graced by Dr. M. P. Singh (Executive Secretary), Registrar Mr. Sanjay Gupta, Dr. Ishan Tripathi (Coordinator – BA(Hons) Mass Communication), and Dr. Shishir Gujrati (Co-Coordinator – B.Com. Hons.), along with faculty members.
In the second session, course coordinators introduced the academic structure and vision of their respective programs to the newly admitted students, with the session being moderated by Dr. Akriti Rathi.
With such profound thoughts, the Orientation Programme 2025 marked not just an introduction to courses, but a celebration of values, vision, and the boundless possibilities of student life at SMS Varanasi.
